After a second title challenger in Vancouver, Vasek Pospisil and Frederic Fontang continue their fruitful collaboration.
8 months of work on the game of the young Canadian of 22 years, beyond the 100th World earlier this year, and now this week Vasek reached the semis of a Masters 1000 in Montreal.
The contribution of the expert like Frederic Fontang , was not a surprise to the connoisseurs of the circuit. Former player (world 59th), winner of the tournament in Palermo, Frederic knows the circuit and its difficulties. He who led the young Jeremy Chardy, from the lowest French ranking at 12 years old, to a ranking of 32nd 11 years later.
Now, Montreal, Luigi Borfiga, head director of Canadian tennis, should not regret his choice of this relationship. And Canadian tennis progresses and confirms that this country deserves its place of semifinalist of the Davis Cup, played in September, in Serbia.
To be continued today in the semifinals … against his teammate Milos Raonic… Happy Canadian Tennis!

By recently securing the full-time services of Frederic Fontang, a 43-year-old former pro, to add another dimension to his game, Pospisil is looking to take the next step in becoming a permanent fixture on the ATP World Tour.
“We are trying to add a level of aggression in to my game and play faster,” said Pospisil, who had worked with Fontang for a three-week trial period in late 2012. “I have always had it in me to play aggressively, but I tended to be more passive.
“We have worked really hard to try and take my game to opponents. That means not getting bogged down in long rallies and striking the ball early, and on the rise.
“Even adding an extra 10 per cent of aggression makes a big difference. You can’t hang back, wait against the top players and expect to win.”
“The work I have undertaken on the practice court over the past six months has given me more confidence. I really believe in what I am doing and that is transferring in to matches.”
…
He credits an improved mental strength. “A few years ago, I didn’t really have a great confidence level in myself, even though I knew I had the ability. I have made great strides and really feel that I belong here now.”
…
With Fontang, in recent months, his education as a tennis player has advanced. “He has made quite a few minor changes technically that have had dramatic results in my game.”

« I feel I’ve had some close matches against top players and had chances,” Pospisil told ESPN shortly after the match. “I knew I was going in the right direction; it was just a matter of time. It’s extra special to do it here in Montreal. I’m trying to ride the wave and see where it goes. »
« Top 50 was a lifelong goal of mine and dream. It was the goal that I set at the beginning of this year, my perfect scenario if I ended the year Top 50. Here I am there already. So my goals are already changing. Every night I go to bed, I’m thinking, I want to do better and better. »
