Compétition par équipes plus relevée encore que les championnats du Monde en +45 ans, la Potter est devenu le plus grand rendez vous des + de 45 ans. Organisée par International Club d’Espagne, elle a regroupé 10 équipes cette année au Real Polo Club à Barcelone.
L’équipe d’Espagne, emmenée par Jordi Arrese, a été la plus forte et a dominé la Grande Bretagne en finale. Nous avons terminé sur le podium 3e, battant l’Italie dans le double décisif.

Un peu d’historique
La Coupe Potter fait partie des compétitions par équipes de l’International Club. Elle a été crée après par John Potter en 1973, et se dispute à Barcelone chaque année pour les + de 45 ans. Elle regroupe 8 à 10 équipes et se joue en 5 simples et 2 doubles.

The Potter Cup, a men’s veterans +45 competition, was first started by John Potter in 1973.
John Potter was originally from the United States and used to live between Barcelona and Biarritz. He was a good tennis player and also represented the USA in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games in fencing, being awarded with a bronze medal. During a friendly match between the IC of Great Britain and the Spanish IC he decided to offer a silver trophy and the competition was started.
Initially four teams played: IC of France, IC of Great Britain, IC of USA and IC of Spain. These teams have been taking part of the competition every year up to know. The competition took place in Biarritz, France, from 1973 to 1979. In 1980 the Potter Cup was first played at the Polo Club, where it has been played now for 28 years. The Potter Cup is a well recognized international competition and is included in the official ITF veteran’s calendar and the European Tennis Federation calendar
